Jo opened her eyes slowly and she looked at Liam. “Okay.”

And there she was, a pretty red head, still in blue scrubs and her surgery cap. “Dr Brown, what the bloody hell is go. I heard the poor girl scream through the entire hospital. What are you doing to her?”

“She is an overly dramatic little child being all whiny and a pain in my ass. She is not able to stand the pain of labour.” Dr Brown spat at the new doctor.

“Oh is she? I just tell you once. Leave now!” The other doctor shoved Dr Brown out of the room. “You can’t treat young mother like this. I will report you to the medical board this time and now I gonna help deliver this baby. So piss off!”

The door was open and everyone was able to hear her angry shouting, but when she came back in the room and closed the door she smiled friendly. I’m sorry you had to see this scene, I’m Dr Addison Forbes. Nurse why is the just one heartbeat monitor attached?” Dr Forbes said in an Irish accent. Jo looked at her.

“Why two monitors?” Jo mumbled.

Dr Forbes looked at her. “Oh. Um has Dr Brown always been your doctor?”

Jo nodded.

“That explains a lot. Sweetheart you are pregnant with two babies, that is really obvious. But to be sure, may I?” Dr Forbes was now standing next to Jo and pointed at her belly, asking for permission to touch her. Jo nodded, the change of doctors that it was a woman now and on top of that she spoke in her favourite accent. Dr Forbes gently palpated her. “Yes you are clearly pregnant with twins. Congratulations… ?” Dr Forbes looked from a shocked Jo to a even more shocked Liam.

There had been three very pleasant things about that new doctor. She was female, so Liam didn’t have to worry that she checked out his wife. She was very nice to Jo. And she was Irish.
However, there was something not good about it. About the situation at all, as a matter of fact. As nice as Dr Forbes seemed, she shouldn’t make jokes like that. He definitely didn’t feel like joking right now.
There was an awkward silence, and he didn’t dare to look at Jo, he just stared at the doctor.
‘You are clearly pregnant with twins.’
Twins.
Twins?
Twins!!!

Dr Forbes obviously had the typically Irish weird sense of humour. Liam let out a dry laugh. “Yeah, that’s a good one”

Dr Forbes tried to smile friendly, but she realized that she had just brought news that those two had obviously not expected at all. She cleared her throat. “I…ehm…I’m not joking. You are having twins.” She looked down to Jo who didn’t get out a word. “You didn’t know at all?”

Jo shook her head quietly, still unable to say anything. She was just about to turn to Liam, when he let go off her hand and stormed out of the room. He didn’t care who was in the hallway right now, the second he got out there he started cursing so loud that probably the entire population of Oxford heard him. He ran towards a water dispenser and kicked it so hard that his foot hurt, but he kept going.
“Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!” He continued kicking the water dispenser as if that could solve any issues- which, of course, it didn’t. The past months had been so hard on him because he had to prepare himself to give Jo up to someone else, and he knew that she would never love him the same way as soon as the baby was there, but now it was two babies…TWO babies! So of course there was not a bit of the love left for him that she used to have, because she now had two babies she could love more than anything else, and sooner or later he wouldn’t matter anything to her anymore. There was no way she could still love him like she used to, not with bloody two other humans she would love from now on. There was just no way.
“This is so unfair!” Liam kicked the water dispenser a last time, then he sank on the floor, ignoring the confused people who had come out to check what was going on. His foot hurt so much as if it was broken, but he didn’t give a shit. The fact that he would lose Jo anyway, no matter if she survived the birth or not, broke his heart. He would lose her, period.
The entire time he had listened to two heartbeats. He had talked not to one but to two midgets. He had started to develop feelings not for one new but for two new people. Two little human beings who would take away everything from him. The entire time he was worried that midget wouldn’t like him, but now he wasn’t worried anymore. He knew that the midgets- yes, as in two-wouldn’t like him. Everyone would love them. Jo would love them more than anything. He gave her the greatest gift she could have, he gave her two kids to love, and now his job was done and he could piss off and leave her with all her happiness, since she wouldn’t need more, her life was finally complete. Two children. Twins.
“This is not fair…”, Liam mumbled. He could barely breathe. He knew this feeling too well, he felt it everytime when he knew that he had either lost or was about to lose the most important person in his life. He didn’t even notice that Dr Forbes appeared next to him.

“Liam? Are you okay?”

He didn’t answer and kept his eyes on the ground.

“I know you were not prepared for this, but neither was your wife, and she really needs you right now.”

Liam got up from the floor and looked at Dr Forbes. “Yeah, sure! All she needs are her children, she doesn’t need her fucking husband!” He didn't even wait for a response, he just turned away from her, stormed downstairs and went straight outside. He really needed to get some fresh air, he couldn’t stay in there for one second longer.

Dr Forbes looked after Liam, but then Jo screaming distracted her from the young man that ran away.

“Jo, try to calm.” Dr Forbes took Jo’s hand and gently rubbed it.

“He left didn’t he?” Jo mumbled.

“Dr Brown? Yes he left no need to be worried about him anymore.” Dr Forbes read the contractions outprint.

“No I meant Liam. He does that, when he gets upset. He also ran when I told him that I’m pregnant in the first place and he never wanted more than one child if ever any children at all. So of course he is upset that I am pregnant with two babies. I can’t believe you did this to me peanut.” The last bit Jo said to her belly and not to Dr Forbes, who was examining Jo to see if Dr Brown really was right.

“You are still just eight centimetres dilated so there is still some more time. Jo how about you try to relax a little bit and I go and try to find Liam. I think you need him here.”

“I do, but he was never keen on being in the delivery room in the first place so maybe this is the way for him not to be here. He would worry a lot about me… He lost his mom too early and he is always scared that something happens to me. He would make me nervous.” Jo said sad.

“Yes he might would do that but he also gives you strength.” Dr Forbes looked worried at Jo.

“Yes he is my rock and… but when I lose him because of the babies I will give them away. There is no way I lose him over them. I love them but he is the one I want to share my life with forever.” Jo said sounding stronger than before.

“Let me guess he doesn’t believe that?” Dr Forbes took off the gloves and wiped Jo’s face with the cold cloth.

“No not really.” Jo looked at Dr Forbes.

“You hang in there, and I go and find Liam. Don’t worry I’ll have my pager with me so as soon the midwife knows the labour starts she will page me.” Dr Forbes brushed Jo’s sweaty hair out of her face.

“Thanks.” Jo mumbled.

Dr Forbes smiled and left her with the midwife. Dr Forbes found Liam out in the parking lot.

“Liam? Are you okay? Jo still has some time she is only eight centimetres dilated, she said you don’t want to be in the delivery room? You do know that even though she accepts your wishes she wants you to know that she would like very much for you to be with her. As far as it looks like from my point of view you are her rock.” Dr Forbes said gentle.

Liam didn’t answer immediately. He had his hands shoved into his pockets and stared to the floor. It was very early in the morning, so not even half of Oxford was awake yet and it was quite chilly outside but he didn’t really notice the cold.
“I used to”, he mumbled.

“Hm?”

“I used to be her rock. Things change. People get replaced…”

Dr Forbes shook her head slowly. “Do you honestly think you will be replaced by your own children?”

“Yes.”

“Liam, that is ridiculous. I heard Jo talking about you, there’s no way anyone would replace you for her, especially not your children. Of course they will be an important part in her and your life from now on, but they will not take your place.”

“You don’t know anything”, he said. “Since I know Jo, she’s always into little cute things. Everytime she saw babies, she got all crazy and couldn’t stop talking about how cute they were, and the same counts for little animals. God, she won’t shut up about them…”

“What’s your point?”

“My point is that I’m not cute and little anymore, you know? Soon I’ll start having grey hair and wrinkles and that kind of stuff, and I’m not interesting enough anymore for her because she’s into cute little babies, which she will have now. Two of them, actually. If she could choose between two little babies and a guy who starts to get old, she would without any hesitation choose the babies, because they are so cute, and little and God knows what!”

Dr Forbes was quiet for a moment. “Jo just told me the complete opposite.”

Liam looked confused at her.

“She said she would rather give the babies away than losing you.”

“And you believe her?”, he asked sarcastically.

“Do you?” She looked him right in the eyes.

Liam didn’t give an answer to this question. “I don’t want to sound like an insensitive jerk…well, yeah, I am an insensitive jerk most of the time, but at the moment I wish this wouldn’t be happening to us. I just…when I met Jo I didn’t plan on getting married so early but it happened because I thought it was the right time. When we got married I didn’t plan on having any children for years, and what happened? We had like two months of being married and then it was over. I don’t blame the baby…babies…for anything, but I wish they wouldn’t come for another five years at least. I’m not ready to lose Jo yet.”

Dr Forbes looked at him and she knew the pain he was in. “When I was your age I had a boyfriend, well we were engaged and planned to get married as soon we were done with medical school. And I got pregnant and because I knew my boyfriend and I knew that he didn’t want to have children at all I got an abortion without telling him. This secret ate me up for a very long time, but on the wedding day I told him in the morning. I told him I did it for him. And that was the moment he left me. He loved me but I stopped loving him the moment I started making decisions for him. I’m not saying you have to believe me, but don’t turn away because you don’t like the situation you and Jo are in. She is asking for you, really desperately and she tries not to show you how much she needs you because she doesn’t want you to think of her as clingy. And think about it Liam there they are those two babies you think she loves so much and she still wants you to be there. She hasn’t forgotten you, she still and always needs you. I can go back upstairs and tell her you don’t feel well enough to be with her in the delivery room and your wonderful wife will nod and say ‘Okay.’ But she will not believe me. I don’t know about you but I think you have two options you either fight for the girl you love and maybe lose her or you curl up in the sand and lose her for certain.” Dr Forbes was looking at the quiet Liam he didn’t seem to have heard her so she turned around to go back into the hospital.

“I’m not going to do this choice for you but I know that I would never let the one I love just walk away from me ever again because I am too afraid to fight for them and might lose this fight. So are you coming or not?”

The truth was, there was only one person in the entire world whom he would believe and listen to now, and that was his mum. He knew if she were here, he would believe her, he would listen to what she had to say. If she said that Jo loved him, no matter how many kids they had, he would believe her. She would be the only person he would believe right now, but she wasn’t there. She never would be.
But there was something about Dr Forbes…The way she talked, the accent, even the sound of her voice…it reminded him so much of his mum, it almost hurt. If he wouldn’t see Dr Forbes, if he would just close his eyes and listen to her, he could swear it was his mother talking to him, and somehow that moved something in him. He thought about what she would have said, and deep inside he knew that she would have said exactly what Dr Forbes just said. She would have wanted him to fight for the one he loved. She had always been a fighter, she had to be. She had always fought for him, and now, so many years later, it was his turn to do the same, to fight for the person that meant the world to him. And yes, the possibility that he would lose was high, and he would have to watch Jo fall in love with someone else, but at least he knew that he had tried to fight for her, even if she would choose someone else over him.
“I’m coming”, he said. Since Dr Forbes had her back turned towards him, he didn’t see the smile on her face.

“Good”, she said. “Jo will be really happy about that.”

When they got back into the delivery room, Liam was a little shy at first. He had no doubt that he probably scared Jo and made her worry. The moment he showed up behind Dr Forbes, Jo’s eyes brightened up immediately.
“You came back”, she whispered.

“I’m so sorry”, he said while he sat down next to her and took her hand. “It’s just…I was scared”, he admitted. He didn’t say that he was scared that she would stop loving him now that she had two babies that would replace him, it was already hard enough for him to admit that he was scared in the first place.

“I’m scared too”, she mumbled. There were actually tears in her eyes, and Liam knew it wasn’t because of the babies but because she was scared that he would leave her.
He squeezed her hand gently and started singing a song, so quietly that neither Dr Forbes nor the nurse could really hear it, it was just meant for Jo’s ears.

Jo had braced herself that he would leave, that he would not come back. She already has decided one thing no matter what gender the babies would be they would either have the middle name Liam or Catherine… she could call two boy Liam and Seamus in case her Liam would have left. It would hurt yes but she hoped the babies looked like Liam so that they would be the reminder of the man she loved so much. She was wondering what to call to girl, she wasn’t sure if there were Irish female versions of Liam and Seamus… but she would have found out.
But then he came back! That was the moment all –now three- heart monitors slowed down. Before that Jo wasn’t really able to calm down until Liam sat next to her and his eyes that always took her breath away looked at her…

“It’s just…I was scared.”

“I’m scared too.”
She didn’t tell him that she was scared that he would leave her but also that if he had left if she would ever be able to love the children that were the reason for his leaving.
Dr Forbes show Liam how he could help Jo through the pain of the contractions. Jo was most of the time lying on her side to take the weight off her from her belly and that made it possible for Liam to massage her back at a few acupuncture spots which helped her to be able to breathe.

“Okay Jo, you are ten centimeters it is time to get ready to push. Liam help me to turn her on her back.” Dr Forbes saw that Liam got pale. “Liam! Listen to me it is no shame to say you can’t handle the actual birth but if that is the case you have to say this now. When you do faint no one will be able to help you, do you understand that?” Dr Forbes took Liam by the shoulders and turned him away from Jo so he was able to make a decision on his own and not because he saw Jo being in pain. Jo looked at Liam’s back and for the first time she was in labour she knew she could do this. She felt a strength run through her that was scary. And it was not because she was a mother but because she felt in every cell in her body that Liam loved her more than anything. “It’s okay Liam I understand, to be honest I think I would rather wait outside but that is not really possible. I know how gross a birth is I saw it from the other end when I delivered Edward. Just make sure you meet the babies, they are really looking forward to meet their dhaidi I know that.” Jo sounded tired but strong.

Liam hesitated for a second. He knew it was going to be very gross, and he knew it would kill him to see Jo in pain, but especially because of this he couldn’t leave her. After all, the wedding vow said ‘To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse…’ and this was definitely a ‘worse’ moment, but he had promised her to be there for her, in good and in bad moments, for better and for worse.
He squeezed her hand encouragingly. “I’m right here.”

“But it will get ugly.”

“Then let it get ugly, I’ll be there.”

Jo smiled weakly at him. “I love you. I…ouch!” She squeezed his hand harder and looked to Dr Forbes. “It hurts so much.”

“You have to stay calm, sweetie”, she said.

Easier said than done. Liam hoped Jo would listen to her, because he sure as hell was freaking out inside.

Jo closed her eyes to calm herself.

“Okay sweetie, it will hurt but I want you to push when the next contraction starts. I will count backwards from ten and you don’t stop pushing until I reach one, okay?” Dr Forbes said to Jo, she was sitting below Jo’s spread legs.

“Okay.” Jo mumbled looking at Liam, he kissed her on the forehead. “I’m sorry for making you worry by seeing me in pain.” She mumbled.

“I’m sorry I caused you this pain.” Liam whispered back.

“Jo, take a deep breath and then push!” Dr Forbes said. Jo did as she was told took a deep breath, held it and pushed… just that the holding your breath didn’t worked it hurt a lot to push out a human.

“Bloody hell it huuuuuurts!” She yelled, while she thought that it seemed to look less painful for Lorelai. Jo didn’t even notice that she was squeezing Liam’s hand so tight that she nearly broke it.

“Just a little bit longer Jo… three, two and one. Okay you have a few seconds and then you push okay.”

“Okay. Can you see the head?” Jo asked out of breath and sounding curious.

“Yes I see the head.” Dr Forbes smiled. “You are doing great. Do you want to have a look Liam?”

“No thanks.” He squeezed out between his teeth.

“Okay. Jo time to push!”

A few more pushed and suddenly Dr Forbes held blueish baby in her arms. “Congratulations you have a wonderful healthy looking girl.” But even though she said congratulations she looked worried.

“She is not crying. Liam why isn’t she crying?” Jo asked panicky.

“I don’t know, maybe she is not a crying baby?” Liam said sounding worried.

Dr Forbes examined the baby on the examination table, and then she lifted the girl by her feet and slapped her hard on the butt it took a few seconds and then the little girl started crying.

“Oh my god Liam, she slapped her. Why the fucking hell did you do that?” Jo yelled actually trying to get up but not able to be possible.
But before Liam had a chance to answer Dr Forbes said. “It is nothing bad, the crying clears her lungs it is common custom to slap the newborn. It hurt her but only for a little while. Jo I think you will have a few minutes until the second one is coming. It might even be longer I don’t think its amniotic sac is broken yet. Liam would you like to hold your daughter so that Jo can see her?”

Liam just stared at the doctor, unable to say anything, but then he saw her. Tiny, so incredibly tiny. So beautiful. So perfect. There she was, little midget. Well, the first of two midgets. A girl. A beautiful, perfect, gorgeous, tiny girl.
Dr Forbes knew that Liam wanted to hold her but at the moment he was too overwhelmed to say anything, so she smiled, walked towards him and placed the baby gently into his arms. Liam just looked at his tiny daughter, he wanted to say something, but he couldn’t. She was so beautiful, he had no words for it. Her tiny hands, her tiny nose, those tiny little feet…she was absolutely perfect.
“Hello, Princess…”, Liam said quietly. “I’m your Daddy.”
He said it. The ‘D-word’ that he had avoided all those months. He had always said that he would nothing more than the father of the baby, but not a dad because he knew he just couldn’t play that role, but he didn’t expect that this role was just automatically coming towards him the second he held his little Princess.
“Do you want to see Mummy?” He turned towards Jo who tried to breathe steadily since she was still not done and had to push one more baby out. When he looked at Jo he just smiled, holding little midget proudly in his arm.

Jo’s breath slowly calmed down. “Shy is so blue. Is she okay?”

Jo didn’t look at Dr Forbes but still talked to her.

“Yes as far I know she is fine but as soon the second one is born they both go to be examined by a paediatrician.”

“Okay. Good, hey my little girl.” The baby was totally calm lying in Liam’s arms and he looked a lot less clumsy the way he held her as he had with Edward or Henry, maybe because this time it was his daughter. “I think she was not the one kicking me all the time.” Jo smiled widely at Liam, she pulled him carefully a little down and kissed him. “I love you so much Liam! Thanks for giving us such a wonderful cute daughter.”

“I have to thank you”, he said quietly. “For being so strong.” His eyes wandered down to his daughter. “You have a brave mother, do you hear me?”

Jo felt tears in her eyes again while she watched Liam with their daughter. “I wonder if her sibling is going to be a boy or a girl.”

It actually didn’t matter for Liam anymore. He just wanted both babies to be healthy, that was all that matter for him right now.

“Does anyone of your family or friends know that you’re here?”, Dr Forbes asked.

“I called Ellen, one of our teachers sometime today…or yesterday…well, anyway, shortly after we arrived at the hospital”, Liam said.

“Okay, that was yesterday. It’s already the 7th of May.”

“What?” Liam turned his head towards Dr Forbes.

“It’s the 7th of May.”

Liam was very quiet. He looked down at little midget, and Jo could tell that something was wrong.

“Liam, what is it?”, she asked carefully.

He didn’t answer immediately, he just touched midget’s tiny nose with the tip of his finger.

“Liam?”

He finally looked up to Jo and smiled. “It’s my mum’s birthday today.”

“Really?”

“In all this craziness that was going on the past hours I didn’t realize it was already the 7th of May, her birthday.” He looked at his daughter again. “I don’t know what we will call her and how many names she’ll get, but would you mind if one of her names is Catherine?”

Jo just couldn’t stop smiling. “That would be wonderful.”

For a while they just looked the little baby, Liam was holding the girl while Jo kept touching her hands and feet. The little girl was wrapped in a large towel, she was still wrinkly and slightly blue at the lips and finger tips. She looked like she had been too long in very cold water.

“You never told me Catherine’s birthday was on the 7th.” Jo mumbled. It was amazing how gentle Dr Forbes was when she examined her, so that she couldn’t even feel it

“Okay Jo, it looks like the second one was in the same amniotic sac, so your contractions should start any moment again. If not sweetie I have to deliver the second one through a c-section. I don’t want to scare you sweetie I just want you to know what might happen, okay?” Dr Forbes said.

“Okay. I think I feel them start again.” Jo whispered.

“Liam, you might want to put your daughter back on the examination bed?” Dr Forbes asked friendly.

Liam didn’t hear Dr Forbes at first, he was too distracting and in his own world while he was holding his daughter that he barely noticed anything else going on until the doctor touched his shoulder gently.
“I think the second child is about to come”, she said. “Do you want to put her on the examination bed now?”

“Oh…yes, sure…” He handed her the baby carefully and then turned around to Jo.

“I think my water broke again”, she squeezed out between teeth.

“Okay, that’s good”, Dr Forbes walked back to her while the nurse took care of the baby. “Now you have to do the same that you did before, just try to stay calm, it might hurt a little more because this little one his further up your belly and needs more time to come down.”

Jo grabbed Liam’s arm tightly.

“Take a deep breath, Jo.”

Jo did what Dr Forbes told her.

“Now push.”

“Fuck!” She didn’t mean to swear like that, but it hurt so much. “Oh God, when does it stop?”

“Soon, sweetie, it will be over soon.” Dr Forbes tried to calm her down while Liam just stood there and started to feel very sick, especially when he saw all that blood.

“Is she okay?”, he asked, but the doctor nodded.

“Yes, don’t be scared by the blood, it’s normal.” She turned back to Jo. “Deep breath and push.”

Jo listened to her and took a deep breath, but the pain only got worse.

“I can see the head!” Dr Forbes smiled.

“Oh God, I can see it too”, Liam mumbled, feeling very sick. He felt like he was about to puke, but he knew he had to pull it together.

“You’re almost done, sweetie, one last push.”

Jo nodded and screamed her lungs out when Dr Forbes finally got out the second baby, which screamed even louder than the mother.
“It’s a girl”, Dr Forbes said. “You have two beautiful twin daughters.”

Jo was breathing heavily, but smiled. She was all sweaty, and her hair was sticking to her head. “Is she okay? She is so blue.”

“That comes from a lack of oxygen and the stress.” Dr Forbes said, as a second doctor came in. “This is the paediatrician, Liam do you want to cut the umbilical cord?”

“Hell no!” Liam nearly shouted, having a hard time not starting to be sick all over the floor. Dr Forbes nodded and cut the cord and then put the second baby in the examination bed. The other doctor put on the second baby a wristband saying Baby O’Doherty #2 and then he was about to push the bed out of the room.

“Where are you taking them? You can’t take my babies. What are you doing with them?” Jo sounded panicked.

“It’s okay sweetie, this is Dr Adams he is the paediatrician who will examine your girls.” Dr Forbes said calmly.

“Liam go with them, please don’t leave them alone they are so little and I don’t want them to be with a stranger. Please.” Jo was begging her husband.

Liam was kind of in between. On one hand he wanted to go with his little girls but on the other hand he didn’t want to leave Jo alone.
“I…um…but you need me here.”

“I’m okay”, she said, although it didn’t sound very convincing. She was weak, and pale, and sweaty and looked like she was about to faint. “Please go with them.”

He looked at Dr Forbes for a reassurance that Jo would be fine, and the doctor nodded. “I have it under control, you should go to your daughters.”

Liam still hesitated, but then he bent down and kissed Jo’s forehead. “I love you”, he whispered so that only she could hear it. Then he turned away and followed Dr Adams out of the room into another one where the babies were examined closely.

“They look exactly the same”, Liam mumbled. Fortunately Dr Adams didn’t say anything about him being in the way, he could probably guess how the young father felt.

“Yes, they are identical twins”, the paediatrician replied. “And so far they look perfectly healthy.”

“Aren’t they a little too small? I mean, I saw a couple of other new-borns and they were all a bit bigger.”

“Yes, that’s true, twin babies are usually smaller because they have to share the same room that usually one baby has for its own.”

“Oh, okay.” Liam nodded and looked at the baby with the wristband that said Baby O’Doherty # 2. He hadn’t had the time to greet his second daughter properly, so he touched her tiny hand gently. She was more active than her sister and reacted to his touch.
“Hello there…” Liam smiled at the little one. “I’m pretty sure you were the one who kicked your mummy all the time, didn’t you?” He took a deep breath and hoped everything was okay with Jo.

“Okay, sweetie it shouldn’t be long until the afterbirth starts. It will be a lot easier the delivery of the placenta will be with barely any contractions.” Dr Forbes was at Jo’s side, washing her face with a cold cloth. When suddenly the monitors started to peep loudly and the wide awake Jo suddenly was unconscious. She turned form just being pale at a little flushed from exhaustion to ash-grey.

“Fuck. Give me a status people!” Dr Forbes barked. One of the nurse called a code while Dr Forbes rushed down Jo’s body and was met by a pool of blood. “She is bleeding out people. Hang on a bag of blood, call the blood bank for more, and make sure Liam is with his daughters at the moment we do normal follow up care for his wife. Move it people or we gonna lose her!”

More doctors and nurses appeared and helped Dr Forbes who was trying to speed up the delivery of the placenta where she knew was a tear that caused Jo to bleed out. She would do everything to safe this girl, somehow she got attached to her patient and she would fight for this girl!

While in one room it looked like the poor chaos as doctors fought to save a young mother’s life somewhere down the halls was a father with his two girls, they were just born and barely knew their mom yet but their daddy loved them already very much.

The babies had been completely cleaned up, covered in comfortable towels and placed on Liam’s arm. He held them both, they were so tiny that they fitted perfectly into his arm. They were both sleeping now, even the second one who had been more active than the other.
This felt so right. Those two little midgets were just perfect. All the feelings he had before, the feelings of being angry at them for taking away Jo, were completely gone. How could he be mad at someone so perfect and lovely? Inside he hoped so much that his daughters would come to like him. He didn’t expect them to love him, but he wished so hard that they would at least like him.
“I wish your mummy could see you right now”, he said to them. “She’s the most wonderful person you will ever meet. Today she was so brave, just like my mum was. You have no idea how lucky you are that she is your mummy.”
