Trials of a New Life

"Why wa' Mwommy's Dwada bwad?" asked Hettie confused. "Mwommy iws nwice!"

"I don't really know Hettie." Jenny and Hettie were outside and Jenny found a bit of chalk on the floor. She drew some circles on the brick wall at one end of the hotel garden. "Can you try to creat fire balls and throw them in the circle? We write down the score."

"We gwonna dwo fiwe stwuff?" Hettie's face lit up and she started bouncing up and down excited. She looked at her hands concentrating hard as a fireball appeared in them.

"Yeah we do fire stuff." Jenny laughed, she really wished she could remember how she was when she was that little. She had to ask her dad. "But try to concentrate to only hit the wall. I'll be taking off points if you hit anything else. And no cheating." Jenny created a fire ball of the size of a ping pong ball and flipped it with ease at the smallest circle on the wall. "That are 10 points for Mama."

"I'ww twy weawwy weawwy hawd Mwama!" said Hettie determindly. She threw her fireball, but her fire skills were a lot stronger than her throwing ones and it went wide.

Jenny giggled. "Let's go a step closer and Mama makes sure there is a hotel for you to sleep in tonight." Jenny was rather busy controlling her daughter's fire. ""Try again, but don't rush and breathe."

"Owkway," said Hettie, stepping forward but looking a bit disapointed. She tried again, this time just outside the circle. "Thwis is hawd!" she pouted

"I know but it took me a lot of practice to control my flame. Do you want me to help you a little bit?" Jenny got out her phone and ooked at it. They weren' gone long but how long could she leave the two alone without blood shed? "How about your get a point for hitting the wall?"

"Owkay! said Hettie grinning. She started to create fireballs quickly, throwing them at the wall.

The phone beeped as it was in Jenny's hand, a message from Mark. 'She needs you now.'

"First she kicks me out now she needs me. Hettie lets go and see what Mommy and granddad is up to. I think you won."

'Coming.'

Jenny picked up Hettie and snuggled her tightly agains her chest. This time they took the lift. "Maybe you can show granddad our practicing wall?"

Hettie cheered, both for going back and winning. 'Cwan I weawwy show hwim?" she asked excitedly. "Wiww he wike it?"

"Yes you can really show him. Just don't set him on fire." Jenny smiled loving at her daughter. "I think he will like it if you do a good job."

"I won! An' weawwy?" asked Hettie grinning. "I cwan' waiwt!" She started skipping as the headed back to the room

Outside the room door Jenny stopped. "Do you have a room key?" Hettie shook her head. Jenny sighed and knocked. "Sally? Dad?" She had no idea what to expect inside this room.

Mark opened the door, a black eye visible on his face. "There you are. You better see her quick." He pointed to the bed where Sally was sitting, tucked into her legs, sobbing a little. "She just needed a chance to vent," said mark.

"I guess I can be glad you still have a head." She mumbled. She bent down and kissed Hettie on the cheek "Hettie take Granddad and show him the practicing wall. I'll take care of Mommy."

Jenny went to Sally and sat down next to her girlfriend. "Hey."

"Owkay Mwma! C'mwon Gwanda!" smiled Hettie, taking Mark's hand and skipping out the door with him in tow.

Sally looked up with tear filled eyes. "H-hi..." she managed to say, then threw her arms around Jenny and cried deeply, wincing occasionally and she put pressure on her right hand.

Jenny didn't know what to say, she just help Sally and patted her back a bit shy. She realised she probably had to practice that, how to talk to people now being a mom she couldn't let Sally do all the feely touchy stuff and the disciplining. What Jenny didn’t like that Sally seemed to have hurt her hand.

“I skip the stupid question if you are okay, obviously not. What do you want me do? Is your hand okay?” Jenny didn’t dare more than to whisper.

“I don’t like that you don’t regenerate like me, this hand looks like it really hurts.”

"J-just... stay.... Being here, you holding me. It's what a want," breathed Sally through her sobs. She looked at her hand over Jenny's shoulder. "I... it might be broken... I sorta.... hit your father..." she explained. "I'm sorry." Surprisingly, it sounded genuine, almost as if she regretted hurting him.

“I don’t plan to go anywhere. I’m always here for you, always!” Jenny said gently rubbing her girlfriend’s back.

“Yeah I saw the shiner… never mind. Better than when I burst into a full blown all over my body flame…” Jenny closed her eyes when she heard that Sally thought she broke her hand and bit her lip. “That takes weeks to heal.” She whispered wishing so badly she could heal Sally’s hand. “… so long!”

"T-thanks," smiled Sally, starting to calm. "Let's hope.. it doesn't take so long." She started to stroke Jenny's hair with her good hand.

"It takes me a few hours to heal a broken hand... but you... weeks!" Jenny looked sad at Sally. "Did you... er sort things out with my dad? He paid for your school and said he could get you into college if you wanted to..."

"I know. It's a shame it not as fast as you," agreed Sally. "Er... it wasn't so much sorting out... as... me shouting at him."

"That is okay, he can take a bit of shouting and punches. At least you look less angry when you think of him. I think Hettie likes him, she took him downstairs I made her a practicing wall for her flame." Jenny brushed some hair out of Sally's face. "What do you wanna do now. I can send him away or just let him babysit Hettie for the day and we... get you to a hospital. Your hand needs to looked at. After that I do anything you want."

Jenny leaned forward and kissed Sally on the cheek and whispered seductively. "You know this is going to make it difficult to have sex."

Sally sighed. "This really has spoilt things. I've so much I'd rather do than hospital," she commented. To prove the point Sally kissed back with a full kiss. "I..uh.. didn't think of that!" she blushed.
