Memoirs of the Pharaohs

Jenny turned a Sally. "So it is our men that attack this country? We have to do something. We can't just stand here and wait." Jenny was walking back and forth, little sparks appearing now and then around her.

"Or someone pretending to be our men. But maybe we should wait until they are in the town and surrounded. Then we can order them to surrender from a position of strength," suggested Sally.

Jenny opened her mouth and wanted to argue with Sally, but something stopped her. She stood still and starred at Sally. "Okay."

She took a deep breath. "I hate waiting, and this... following plans I'm shoot first and ask questions later kind a girl. This is so hard!"

Sally saw the difficulty Jenny was in and hugged her. "I know it's hard but... I can't believe I'm saying this... but we have to think of more than just you and me here." She groaned. "I don't like having people around I have to protect..."

"It's not the people around that make me nervous, I just can't wait. And I hope you don't mean that you don't like having me around to think about." Jenny tried to relax in Sally's arm, but since she knew they would be in a battle her flame was just waiting to be on, to fight, to burn and like a bush fire once the spark was caught it ws hard to maintain.

"I wasn't meaning you and Sekhmet, I meant... all these other people," said Sally. "I don;t like other people," she added quietly.

"Yeah I noticed that you are not a big people person... I never liked them either, I thought everyone is gonna hurt me and in a way I still do." Jenny looked at the Great Kahn, she leaned closer to Sally and whispered. "Like him, he still makes me wonder why the big guy can't catch the raiders himself. He makes me wonder if he really is on our side."

"I can hear you," said the Khan, causing Sally to gasp. He turned to face the girls, and to Sally's surprise, he was smiling.

"I admit, there was part of an ulterior motive. I wanted you to see that people from your lands, or pretending to be, were attacking. You now have the proof with your own eyes, not just my word." He suighed. "There was a time words were enough, but those days have passed."

Jenny felt like a bucket of water extinguished her flame, she was sure that she spoke quiet enough that Kahn should not have heard her. That meant he had heard all their whispering. She created to large fire balls on eahc of her hands, more checking for herself if her flame was still working.

"Why aren't words enough anymore? Is this really just about the raids?" Jenny sparkled angry and mistrusting at Kahn.

The Khan sighed again. "No, the raids are merely the latest symptom of something far worse. The Great Powers are falling apart. Uluru, Gaia and Shaper no longer talk to the others, Quetzalcoatl seems convinced he's a god, and as for Merlin..." He shook his head. "Only Adonis seems unaffected, but then, he wasn't concerned with matters of the mind."

"Right... for a while I used the name Gwenevere since I didn't want my father to find me but still couldn't give up who I was... and still you lost me. What Great Powers? I really need to read more... Sally tell me you understood anything and explain it to me?" Jenny looked lost. "Maybe I should sit down and you just point where you need to burn something."

Sally looked somewhat lost as well. "I know... some of those names, but not from each other. It's like someone cherry picked stuff from lots of different mythologies and mixed them together!"

Jenny sighed deeply. "Sally I counted of your pretty head to help me out. I guess we got to wait for Harry Potter to show up and wave his wand. Kahn imagine I hit my head and lost my memory and you have to exlain this for me or just point and I shoot whatever is easier."

The Khan looked surprised, then shook his head. "I do not think we'll have the time to indulge you. They are almost upon us," he said pointing.

"I guess point and shoot it is." Jenny quickly looked for Sekhmet, the girl was standing at the window. She did looked a little scared but also very determined.

"Let the games begin." Jenny mumbled, as some of the raiders got trapped in said trenches.

Sally drew her crossbow and a selection of bolts from her jacket, slotting them into a magazine and attaching it the the crossbow as well as the telescopic sight. The lay down on the edge of the watchtower and started taking aim.

Jenny wanted to throw a few fire balls when she thought of a better thing to do. She created fires all around the raiders and lit up the scene. The soldiers were fighting with the raiders, but something was odd. Why were they attacking in the first place?

Corralled in by the trenches and soldiers, the fight was going badly for the raiders. Sally started to open fire, shooting down into the group.

"Mama! I can;t tell who's a goody and who's a baddy!" called Sekhmet.

Jenny went over to Sekhmet. "I know what you mean it is really hard. Look these over there are coming from the desert they must be baddies. You throw fire balls at them and I make sure that you can reach that far. And I show you what I like to do." Jenny grinned lifted her hand as if she wanted to lift something up when suddenly in front of the baddies a huge pillar of fire shot up from the ground in front of the man sending them flying and screaming.

Sekhmet squealed excitedly and clapped as Jenny's fire pillar erupted.

"You know, for some reason.... I don;t feel good that our daughter is so violent," said Sally as Sekhmet started throwing fireballs down.

"Really I feel incredibly proud. Think how well she can defend herself against cheeky teenager boys." Jenny's eyes sparkled.

Sally couldn't help but grin, thought it was slightly twisted. "I retract my complaint!"

Jenny let more and more fires explode from the ground when suddenly the watch tower shook a little like in a earthquake. "Oops sorry." Jenny quickly grabbed Sekhmet and pulled her away from the window before the girl could fall out. The raiders seemed to notice that they got attacked from the watch tower.

A voice roze up from the attacking soldiers, as one of them stood on his chariot and pointed to the top of the tower.

"The False Pharaohs are there! We much topple the tower!" he cried.

Sally took aim and fired a bolt straight at him. It thudded into him, but he didn't even flinch. He simply looked down with a smirk and pulled it loose.

"Okay that was weird. Sekhmet stay with Mommy." Jenny kissed Sekhmet on top of her head, ran towards the window and jumped out the moment she left the tower she was on fire and flying. She circled the tower before she shot towards the chariot and threw several fire balls at him.
